Discussion: From Empires to the Modern World

A Student Alliance discussion held at LSE Clement House brought members together for a thoughtful exchange of ideas ahead of our visit to Wellington House. The session invited participants to reflect on a central question: where is our world going next, and how have historical forces shaped the modern global order?

The discussion focused on the transition from empires to the modern world, examining how developments of the eighteenth century continue to influence contemporary political, social, and international structures. Through guided conversation and open exchange, members explored the lasting impact of historical power, governance, and ideology on today’s global landscape.

The session encouraged students from different academic backgrounds to share perspectives, question assumptions, and engage critically with history as a living framework rather than a distant past.
