The Holborn Leadership Conference: Reflections on Leadership and Student Engagement
The Holborn Leadership Conference, hosted by the World Student Alliance in collaboration with the Management Department at the London School of Economics, brought students together for an afternoon of discussion, reflection, and exchange on the theme of leadership in a global context.
The event opened with a welcome reception, providing members and guest with the opportunity to connect with student leaders from universities across the UK and internationally. This informal setting encouraged conversation and networking, setting the tone for an event centred on dialogue, openness, and shared experience.
A highlight of the conference was the keynote lecture delivered by Larry Kramer, President and Vice-Chancellor of the London School of Economics. Drawing on his extensive experience in academia and leadership, the lecture explored what it means to lead with integrity, responsibility, and vision. His reflections offered valuable insights into the challenges and responsibilities that accompany leadership roles, particularly within institutions that shape public life and policy.
The conference also featured contributions from student leadership within the World Student Alliance, reinforcing the importance of student-led initiatives and collective engagement. These perspectives highlighted how leadership can be cultivated not only through formal positions, but also through active participation, collaboration, and commitment to shared values.
The Holborn Leadership Conference formed part of the World Student Alliance’s wider programme of events and activities, which aim to create spaces for thoughtful discussion and meaningful connection. Through initiatives such as this, we continue to encourage students to reflect on leadership, engage with influential voices, and build communities grounded in dialogue and shared purpose.
